Mark Howard Gordon

Mark Howard Gordon, 69, passed away October 4, 2016, at the Providence Alaska Medical Center, Anchorage.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at the Jewel Lake Church of the Nazarene, 4025 W 88th Avenue, Anchorage. Rev. MJ Quick will officiate.

Mark was born December 21, 1946, in Urbana, Ohio. He graduated from high school in Fairborn, Ohio.  He was a certified arborist. He was also an EMT in Lake Chelan. Mark married Virginia Lee (Grey) Gordon on February 10, 2001.  Four years before marriage they established Tree Huggers Landscape and planted many fruit trees.  He also built a cabin in the Mat-Su. Mark was a bus driver with First Student/Laidlaw, retiring in 2014. He also worked as a water truck operator and arborist for Anchorage Parks and Rec., Alaska Trailblazing, and A-1 Lawn and Landscaping and at Gary King Sporting Goods.  He

Mark was a member of the AHC — Anchorage Horticulture Coalition. He received the “Rookie of the Year” in 2004 and “Employee of the Year” in 2005 from Alaska Trailblazing. He enjoyed anything with trees, bore tides, birds, and civil rights issues

“Mark could play guitar and sing ‘I’ll walk the line’ better than Johnny Cash.”

Mark is survived by his wife, Virginia “Gini” Gordon, Anchorage; brother. Dow Gordon, Seattle, WA; sister, Stephanie Gordon, New York; son, Silas Gordon, Washington;  daughter, Sharon  Gordon, Oregon; step-daughter, Kristyn Hertrich, Anchorage; stepmother, Bett (Toledo) Gordon, Lake Chelen, WA; step-sister, Danica Gordon, Lake Chelan, WA; godchild, Danielle Gordon, Casco, ME; granddaughters, Chloe and Isis Gordon, Washington; grandsons, Jayson House and Tyler Hertrich, Anchorage; cousins, Wayne Gordon, Casco, ME and Dawn Debusk, Casco, ME and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lenore Howard Gordon and father, Larry Gordon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
