Duane Lee Peavy

 Dr. Duane Lee Peavy made his transition from this life on 11/21/13. He was born on 6/27/46 in Vancouver, Washington. Duane was preceded in death by his father Lt. Col. Ernest W. Steinberg; mother Mrs. Juanita J. Peavy; and adoptive father Col. Vaughn Peavy. Duane resided in Germany, Japan, California, Ohio, Florida, Massachusetts and Texas.Duane attended Ohio State University and was the Treasurer of his fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon. He loved the Buckeyes and fondly remembered getting a group of friends together to travel to the Rose Bowl and watch them play. Duane graduated as a 2nd Lt. in the Army and with a B.S. with Distinction in Microbiology.Duane took a Spring Break trip to Daytona and determined that his Ph.D. would be in Florida! He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and received the 1973 Sigma Xi Graduate Student Award.Duane completed his Post-doctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Houston, Texas to take an Assistant Professorship at Baylor College of Medicine.Duane completed his professional career at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center Houston as a tenured professor in the Dept. of Medical Technology. While working at UT, Duane also completed a MPH Degree in Epidemiology at UT School of Public Health. Although exceptionally bright in his chosen professional field, Duane was also well versed in sports, astronomy, history, politics, and finance among others. He had an uncanny ability to share his knowledge in conversation with others from all walks of life and station and it always felt equal! In playing sports or cards, Duane usually won, but if he or his team didn't, he was happy and ready to play another day!Duane is survived by his two sons, Dr. Reed Peavy and Mr. Kellan Peavy. They were his proudest achievement and each have grown to be smart, sweet, and kind like their father. Duane's Memorial Service will be held at Distinctive Life Funeral Home 5455 Dashwood, Bellaire, TX 77401 on Saturday, 11/30/13 at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held following the service.
