THOMAS J. GRIFFETH, FHS FLYERS CLASS of 1964

Thomas (Tom) J. Griffeth of Langhorne, PA, passed away Friday, October 18, 2019. He was born March 16, 1946, in Hannibal, MO, to the late Thomas J. and Ellen Doyle Griffeth. He enjoyed growing up with his three sisters in Fairborn, OH, where he played on the golf team at Greene County Country Club and graduated from Fairborn High School.

Tom is survived by his wife, Sharon McIntyre Griffeth; two sons, Thomas J. Griffeth III and Timothy S. Griffeth; a daughter, Sarah L. Kelly; three sisters, Connie Gyure, Carolyn McMillan, and Dolores Ramey; and his six grandchildren: Zachary, Joshua, Ryan, Dox, Armor, and Naomi.

Tom graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla, School of Mines and Metallurgy with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968. Upon graduating from college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1968. After proudly serving in the Army, Tom began his 40+ year career as an engineer. His career took him to U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, PA, to Thiokol Corporation in Huntsville, AL, to Eichleay Engineers in Pittsburgh, and finally to Joseph Jingoli & Son in Lawrenceville, NJ. The projects he worked on included building steel mills, power plants, cement plants, schools, hospitals, and rocket boosters. Tom also owned his own business in Port Charlotte, FL.

A proud and patriotic man who believed in family, American values, and an honest day’s work, Tom enjoyed playing golf, walking his dogs, driving sports cars, fishing, and traveling with his wife. A perfect day might be grilling steaks and watching the U.S. Open after a day of golf in Hilton Head. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed watching the Steelers game with family and friends. He was widely respected for his quiet strength, kindness, good humor, and wise advice. Later in life, Tom enjoyed watching his children grow as adults and being a proud grandfather to six grandchildren.
